The International Coastal Clean-up is a global event in over 100 countries and over 1 million people volunteering their time to clean a local beach. In 2019 over 10 million kgs of waste was collected with South Africa being one of the top 10 participants. South African communities have celebrated this day for many years across coastlines from Richards Bay to Cape Town and collect data of what type of waste, quantities and locations are collected using the Clean Swell app.
“We are excited to be registered with Plastics SA for this year’s clean up despite the Covid 19 restrictions. We are geared up and ready to make an impact” said Mr Nazeer Jamal, Managing Director of Khweza Environmental Consulting. “Everyone is invited to attend whilst complying with lockdown regulations which include wearing a mask and social distancing with groups of 5 people. We encourage participants to use closed shoes and bring along gloves to protect your hands. We will provide bin bags and sanitiser for all” he further stated.
